Become an Atomic Consultant

There are certain qualities and skills that are essential as an Atomic Consultant, below is the background information you need for this challenging and rewarding role:

  • As a Consultant, you will first need to win the client, before you can begin to attend to their human resource needs, which means you'll need to be a great salesperson: trustworthy, knowledgeable, driven, persuasive, honest, and resilient. It goes without saying that networking is a large part of the consultant's role. A creative and entrepreneurial approach will be a big advantage in this role.
  • You will need to keep abreast of all the latest news and developments in your specific business sector and with your clients, in order to "speak the same language" and gain a complete understanding of the issues your client may be facing in the marketplace. So, you have to be business-savvy and inquisitive, with an ability to assimilate new concepts quickly.
  • You'll need to educate your client, at times, on employment legislation and other issues therefore, you will need to cultivate diplomacy and tact, but you will also need to learn how to be firm. You will be dealing with a variety of people, so an open mind is essential.
  • You'll be managing recruitment projects, from 1 to 10 or more positions for any one client at any given time, so you'll need to be extremely organised, have great time-management skills, and possess an ability to see projects through from start to finish.
  • You'll need to communicate at almost every point with your Recruiter, to make sure the candidates match the client's requirements, and liaise with your client throughout, so excellent communication skills are a must, as are great relationship building skills, both internally and externally.
  • You will be responsible for resolving any issues that may arise for your client during the course of the recruitment project, and will also have ongoing account management duties, so you'll have a high level of accountability and will be responsible for tracking and recording your activities daily, to produce detailed performance reports for your clients, as required.
  • A Consultant at Atomic consults with clients to understand their particular human resource requirements, fills their vacant positions and solves their staffing problems. This may sound easy, but it is not as simple, nor as straightforward as it sounds.
  • Finally, your attitude and drive will determine how well you succeed in this role. There is huge potential to earn lots of money, build great relationships, learn and develop in both a professional and personal sense and have a great time doing it, but it is not easy, managing people's expectations and earning their trust. A positive attitude will be your most valuable asset in this exciting and challenging role.
